Some prayers work. Some prayers don’t. Why?

Why does it surprise us when our prayers don’t bear fruit? Some diets work, but most don’t; some investments produce, but others don’t; some schools are effective, but others fail. With most things, there is simply a way they work best. And so it is with prayer.
